Resources If you have articles, websites, or other resources about creating healthy, generative work and work environments that readers would find enlightening please send them to me at michael@michaelkroth.com. It’s a no-brainer, one would think, but too often managers try to save money on “non-essential” items, not realizing they are actually reducing productivity and organizational outcomes. The next two articles tell a bit of the story. Measuring Intangibles and Googling for Greatness Visit the Great Place to Work® Institute http://www.greatplacetowork.com/ and you’ll find an abundance of information about creating terrific work environments. They’re the folks who put together Fortune’s 100 Best Places to Work list each year. For those with a more scholarly bent, check out this article on their site, Does the Stock Market Fully Value Intangibles, http://papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.cfm?abstract_id=985735. There are a number of articles you can download, but a pretty nifty one you can find there is Why is Google so Great? At http://www.greatplacetowork.com/great/reading.php. Presentations (Selected) IBAM I just presented a paper, “Caring as a Managerial Strategy,” at the Institute of Behavioral and Applied Management’s (IBAM) annual conference in Reno, Nevada in October (http://www.ibam.com/). Carolyn Keeler from the University of Idaho was my co-author and co-researcher and I am excited to be working with her to learn about the impact that managerial caring has in the workplace. This is an excellent conference. The atmosphere was informal, friendly, and supportive and I learned much from the people who attended and presented. ACTE In December I will be presenting “Motivational Tools for Noncharismatic Leaders” at The Association for Career and Technical Education (ACTE) annual meeting in Las Vegas, NV (http://www.acteonline.org/convention/). ACTE is “the largest national education association dedicated to the advancement of education that prepares youth and adults for careers.” This will be my second ACTE presentation and I’m looking forward to the conference and Las Vegas in December! ILLA In October, I was a plenary speaker at the Idaho Lifelong Learning Association’s annual meeting in Sun Valley, Idaho. Whew - that is beautiful country! My topic was “Caring as an Adult Learning Strategy,” and what fun it was to see old friends. Three of my doctoral students—Rob Meyer, Brent Bean, and Tom Paskett—were presenters. Brent Bean is also presenting this week at the Transformational Learning Conference in Albuquerque. Very exciting.
NCCAE I just returned from giving a presentation to the National Council of County Association Executives in Savannah, Georgia. I met some stellar leaders there who are working hard in each of their states to make a positive difference. Sometimes I wonder if we realize just how much better off our communities are because of the work people like these do. It was an honor to be asked to speak to them. Kudos Check out the nice things participants at the Mountain Plains Adult Education Association had to say about my recent presentation Click Here. ©Copyright 2007, All Rights Reserved |
